At Youth Group, we have started our new bible study for the year on the Book of John. Here on the Weebly page, you have the chance to think about it all a bit more! The Challenge for the fall is to complete the five bible question sets that will get posted. If you take part in all five - your prize will be a free trip up Mt Washington to go tubing. Should be fun!
As we have been reading the book of John - we have thought about who we are - and who Jesus is. We've discovered that Jesus is the Word, the True Light, God in the flesh, full of grace and truth, Creator, Eternal, Sustainer and from the beginning! That's a lot to discover! But wait! There is more! No - there are no sets of Ginsu Knives - just more exciting things to learn about who Jesus really is!
Take a look at this reading from Paul's letter to the Colossians Chapter 1, verses 15-22.
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see-- such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.
19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth
by means of Christ’s blood on the cross. 21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.
There's lot in there! Paul is one of those guys who doesn't waste words. Every word he writes counts!
I get pretty excited when I read about Jesus! I find it amazing to think that even though He has been around since the beginning of time AND He made things we can't even see AND He has supreme power... He still loves You and Me! Think about it! I bet you'll be amazed!
